Experience the forest - on the trail of the tawny owl
There are so many exciting things to see and experience right in Hofheim's city forest. The forest bird trail is located at the end of Breckenheimer Straße, runs towards Sportpark Heide and is freely accessible. It focuses on seven learning stations about our forest birds and the forest as a habitat. At each learning station, there is a hands-on activity that appeals to families as well as school classes and daycare centers.
For accompanied children aged 4 and over and families, ecokids have developed a rally that can be booked. On the trail of the tawny owl, lots of exciting things are told, experienced and learned.
The rally takes about two to three hours, is 2.5 km long and can be booked for groups of children and families. Good footwear is a prerequisite.

Now with flyer and interactive app
The "Man and Earth" hiking trail, which connects the town center of Hofheim with the
northern district of Lorsbach, has gained another attraction. Following the creation of a digital extension to the themed trail, which is equipped with geological information boards, an information flyer has also been available since 2020, which makes the development of the landscape around Hofheim comprehensible in an attractively designed form.
"These days in particular, many people are rediscovering their homeland and taking excursions into the surrounding area. This nature trail is one of the many attractive excursion destinations in our town. I am delighted that the trail has now gained an exciting interactive element thanks to the flyer with matching app," says Mayor Christian Vogt.
"A printed QR code makes it easy to link the content to an app that contains further information. This means that the offer also appeals to the younger generations and can be used, for example, by schools in the Hofheim city area for environmental education purposes," explains Prof. Karl-Josef Sabel, one of the initiators of the project.
The idea of creating a digital format goes back to the academic theses of former geography students Melanie Elsemüller and Katja Nozdrenko, who are now working as teachers. The topic was supervised by Rainer Dambeck at Frankfurt's Goethe University and, once the technical basis was in place, was impressively realized graphically by David Zeyher.
"We are delighted that we can now hand over the project, in which we received excellent support from the city of Hofheim and the community foundation, to the public," says Sabel, emphasizing the cooperation between the project partners involved. As soon as the restrictions due to the corona pandemic allow, there will be a guided hike along the nature trail.
You can download the flyer free of charge at the bottom of the page. The flyer is also available from the citizens' office in the town hall, the town museum and the town library. The app can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The quiz is recommended for children and young people aged 13 and over and is also interesting for adults.
